Driving from Tbilisi, the capital of the country of Georgia, to a cave monastery complex called David Gareja, we experienced some of the most dramatic landscapes I have seen on my trip so far. Here is just one example.

I can’t wait to read more of your Georgia posts. I hope you loved David Gareja monastery complex with the caves and all. Hope you’re having a great time in Georgia.

Thanks Maya! Just returned for a 2 week stay this time – hoping to head to Svaneti and Telavi this time in addition to more time in Tbilisi.
I loved David Gareja but was slightly devastated because my camera battery died shortly after we started hiking up to the caves. Got some pictures on my phone, but not the best. Might have to go back. 🙂
I’m hugely envious of your whole trip, but especially this bit! I adore Georgia; the food is so heavenly and the people the most hospitable I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Telavi has an amazing food market, if you make it there, and Svaneti is wild but absolutely beautiful (I went to Mestia, but our truck broke down on the way and we also spent the night in a field). Happy travels 🙂
